Project summary
The project resulted in the implementation of the first phase of the national action plan “Fairway Rehabilitation and Maintenance Master Plan of the Danube and its Navigable Tributaries”, which forms part of the Rhine-Danube TEN-T Corridor Work Plan. This phase focused on coordinated measures aimed at ensuring reliable and safe navigation conditions along the Danube, contributing to the improvement of inland waterway infrastructure and supporting the shift towards more sustainable freight transport modes.
The project supported the coordinated implementation of the “Fairway Rehabilitation and Maintenance Master Plan of the Danube and its Navigable Tributaries”, a document jointly developed by all Danube riparian countries to eliminate bottlenecks along the Rhine-Danube Core Network Corridor. As part of the project, national action plans were regularly updated, hydrological services were equipped with modern instruments (including water flow metering stations and surveying vessels), and waterway management systems were procured. A harmonized water level forecasting system was established, pilot activities were carried out, and documentation for future improvement measures was prepared—contributing significantly to the realization of the Master Plan’s long-term goals.
