Project description

The “Modernization of the tram network of the city of Zagreb – phase 1” project modernized 11 sections of the tram line with a total length of 8.1935 km (16.387 km of track), which represent the most critical parts of the tram line. In phase II of the implementation, the modernization of rectifier stations Daničićeva, Patačićkina and Zvijezda is planned.

The modernization of the rectifier stations will take place successively, one by one, since a specific rectifier station cannot take over the activity of another. Modernization will include general renovation of buildings, replacement of defective low-voltage power cables, busbars and lines, replacement of 10kV switchgear, rectifier and house transformer,
rectifiers and DC distribution equipment.

Project goal

By investing in activities aimed at increasing the quality of the tram infrastructure, the beneficiary plans to increase the number and share of public transport passengers, achieve greater safety of the transport system, reduce the impact of traffic on the environment, reduce the number of traffic accidents related to public transport, and increase the quality and competitiveness of the tram network.

The specific objectives of the project are:

  2. Improving the safety of the transport system
  3. Reducing the transport system impact on climate change and the environment – air pollution and CO2 emission
  4. Reducing vehicle maintenance costs and total operating costs
  5. Increasing the comfort and service availability
  6. Reducing tram travel time (increasing travel speed)
  7. Increasing personal security (of the driver and passengers)
  8. Ensuring service and accessibility for persons with disabilities and reduced mobility
  9. Better information for passengers
  10. Ensure long-term sustainable urban tram transport connections
  11. Raising the financial sustainability of the urban public transport in Zagreb
