Project description

The project envisages the construction of a port open to public traffic Polačište. The modernization of transport infrastructure on the island of Korčula will improve the connection between Korčula and the surrounding islands and the mainland, while improving the quality of life for the islanders.

The project envisages a 16 m wide, 55 m long operational pier with a ferry berth, 55 m along the east side and 80 m along the west side. A 130 m long coastline with a ferry berth is also planned on the east side. In the western part of the port, a 218.4 m long mooring shore is planned, enabling the simultaneous reception of multiple ships or a single ship exceeding 200 m, and a western pier, 50 m long and 16 m wide, housing a border crossing 50 m x 2.5 m, enclosed with a movable fence. A 110 m pedestrian corridor (width varies between 0.9 m and 3 m) leads to the passenger terminal building, with customs and border passenger control on the premises, so that the total surface area of the international section of the port is 366 m2. The project also envisages the construction of a passenger terminal, waiting, handling and boarding areas, and the construction of a bus turnaround for use by public transport transfering passengers to the Korčula town center.

The implementation of the project will increase the capacity for maritime traffic, and the new port of Polačište will enable the landing of vessels in the port area in all weather conditions. Lines currently operating in the ports of Dominče and Korčula are scheduled for relocation to the port of Polačište.
