Project summary

The project resulted in the preparation of the Functional Airspace Block Central Europe (FAB CE) study, which defined the operational and technical prerequisites for implementing the FAB CE initiative.

The study developed and validated the operational concept of the Free Route Airspace (FRA) within FAB CE, with the potential for extension beyond its borders. The study supported the implementation of the Single European Sky initiative by identifying opportunities for cross-border cooperation, optimizing airspace structures, and improving the coordination of air traffic management among participating countries. As a validation tool, the study included a simulation conducted at Hungarocontrol’s Centre of Research, Development and Simulation, aimed at verifying results and elaborating the necessary requirements for introducing individual air traffic management systems.
