Project summary

The project included the preparation of study documentation related to the modernization of the existing rail sections: Čakovec – Varaždin, Varaždin – Lepoglava and Zabok – Krapina / Zabok – Sveti Križ. Based on the Feasibility Study the optimal route was identified as Čakovec – Varaždin – Cerje Tužno – Ivanec – Lepoglava – Peršaves – Bedekovčina – Zabok – Sveti Križ Začretje – Krapina, 92 kilometres long.

The study documentation creates the prerequisites for the preparation of technical documentation and construction works with an aim to connect the functional sub-region around Varaždin with the city of Zagreb by rail. The project activities included the preparation of a study, which examined the connections that the ″Lepoglava coupling″ provides within the functional region of the Central Croatia, with conceptual designs. Furthermore, drafting of the Feasibility Study and preparation of the Cost-benefit Analysis for the selected conceptual design were also included in the study.
