Project description

The completed project has resulted in the construction of a new ferry slip in Stinica Bay, enhancing the infrastructure of the port of call for the national ferry line 337 Mišnjak–Stinica.

The completed intervention included comprehensive reconstruction of the coastal zone supporting the new ferry slip in Stinica Bay. This encompassed the construction of two protective bulwarks and access walkways, improving the operational safety and accessibility of the site. The slip has been strategically reoriented so that bora winds impact the ferry bow-on rather than laterally, significantly enhancing docking and casting-off manoeuvres during adverse weather. These improvements ensure year-round reliability of the Mišnjak–Stinica ferry line, strengthening transport resilience for island-mainland connectivity.

Project results

The project implementation has resulted in an increase of at least 50 additional completed ferry voyages annually, primarily during the October to March period, when adverse weather previously caused significant disruptions to the sailing schedule. This improvement enhances the reliability and continuity of ferry services in challenging seasonal conditions.

Most notable achievements:

  1. Improvement of transport connectivity between the island of Rab and the mainland (particularly during severe weather season), as well as the city of Senja and the rest of the County,
  2. Reduction in embarkation/disembarkation waiting times for passengers and vehicles, resulting in reduction of total travel time.
