Project description

The project envisages a control and ICT upgrade of the conventional traffic system in the functional traffic area of the city of Split.

The core of the new intelligent transport system (ITS) is a video surveillance system with integrated video analytics, which will be deployed at 28 signalized intersections. Other project elements include the adaptive traffic control system, a mobile application for passenger information, a system of overhead variable message signs in 2 key locations, priority of passage for public transport and emergency services, environment and weather monitoring systems, and the establishment of the Traffic Management Center. All ITS subsystems are connected to the Traffic Management Center located at the Traffic police HQ in Dubrovačka Street – the central control room for mobility management.

Project goal

The goal of ITS is to improve the performance of the transport system, which is reflected in the quality of transport services. Performance is evaluated by measuring capacity, response time and efficiency of traffic regulation.

Specifically, the project addresses the problems of traffic congestion, environmental pollution, reduced levels of safety and traffic control through the interoperability of ITS subsystems, providing comprehensive traffic information, monitoring of weather and environmental conditions and other traffic-related monitoring.
