Project summary
The project involved the assessment of Safety Performance Management of the TEN-T Core road network in four European countries: Croatia, Italy, Greece, and Spain.
The project demonstrated a methodology for network-wide assessment and proposed section-specific, economically viable crash countermeasures designed to raise infrastructure quality and achieve significant reductions in severe injuries and deaths.
It produced almost 8,000 km of mapping of death and serious injury rates, administered more than 4,000 carriageway kilometres of Star Rating maps, and provided a solid technical justification for using network-wide road assessments. Additionally, the project delivered over 100 examples or case studies showing how mapping of death and serious injury rates from crash data can be used to target selective Star Rating assessments.
