Project summary
The project resulted in the construction of a 185 m long and 6 m wide external breakwater, now used for berthing passenger liners, as well as the reconstruction of a 280 m long narrow coastal strip.
The reconstruction and upgrade carried out as part of the project continued the revitalization of the Cres seafront, forming a unified spatial and functional whole with the existing port structures. The upgrade of the western part of the Port of Cres improved transport quality on the high-speed ferry line Mali Lošinj – Ilovik – Susak – Unije – Martinščica – Cres – Rijeka, enhanced safety within port waters, and enabled a more efficient connection between the bus station and the ship terminal.
Project results
The project resulted in the successful reconstruction and extension of the western part of the Port of Cres, contributing to improved port functionality, enhanced safety, and better connectivity with other modes of transport.
The project successfully improved the infrastructure in the port basin area of Cres by constructing a safer and better-organized pier on the west coast. This upgrade has enhanced connectivity between the island of Cres and the surrounding Cres archipelago islands. The reconstruction and extension have positively impacted access to employment, education, and other essential services for island residents. Additionally, it has strengthened the integration of the Croatian islands into the broader transport network, fostering local economic growth.
