Ceremonial opening of Poljana in Šibenik

Location

Trg Poljana, Šibenik

The Poljana logistics centre is part of the project "Integrated mobility in the city of Sibenik - increasing the number of passengers in public transport" which aims to improve the user information system, facilitating the use of various transport services.

A ceremony featuring musical performers was held in Šibenik on 27 June to commemorate the opening of a complex on Poljana, the central square of Šibenik. The opening ceremony was attended by Minister of Regional Development and EU Funds Marko Pavić, Minister of Public Administration Ivan Malenica – a native of Šibenik – and Mayor of Šibenik Željko Burić, alongside other guests.

The new complex located on Poljana Square boasts a Center for mobility management, electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and an old- city-center supply zone, along with a total of 256 parking spaces to replace those being removed from the streets in and around the historic center, and which had previously prevented the full utilization of public areas.

In addition to the construction and outfitting of the Poljana complex, the project includes the purchase of 11 new low-floor buses for travellers using the seven public passenger lines, installation of info displays at bus stops, as well as the production of a free-to-use smartphone application to review and reserve parking spaces and purchase tickets. The project is worth in excess of 11 million euros, and is financed with 9.838.222,78 euros from the EU Cohesion Fund.
