An opening conference was held for the project "Construction of the road Pučišća – Povlja, section Pučišća – cove Luka" organized by the County Road Office Split. The project envisages the construction of a 4.8 km road from the intersection of County Road ŽC 6161 with the unclassified road Pučišća-Jadrankamen to the intersection with the turnoff of the unclassified road in the direction of Tourist Zone "Luka", or the first phase in the reconstruction and construction of the road Supetar - Pučišća - Povlja - Sumartin.
Today, an opening conference was held in the Lora public hall in Split, where the EU project “Construction of the road Pučišća – Povlja, section Pučišća – cove Luka”, implemented by the County Road Office of the Split-Dalmatia County, was presented. The conference, organized according to the rules conditioned by the presence of the epidemic, was hosted by the director of County Road Office Split Petar Škorić and project manager Hrvoje Balić, with the places of honor occupied by the prefect of Split-Dalmatia County Blaženko Boban and the mayor of Pučišća Marino Kaštelan.
The motto of the conference was “One Brač”, and it was followed by a visit to Brač and a tour of construction sites on the section Pučišća – cove Luka, bustling since October when the earthworks began. The participants of the conference were joined in the tour by the Mayor of Selca Ivan Marijančević, and representatives of the company Patrlji Ltd. which is performing the works.
The project envisages the construction of a road totaling 4,825 m from the intersection of County Road ŽC 6161 with the unclassified road Pučišća-Jadrankamen to the intersection with the turnoff of the unclassified road in the direction of Tourist Zone “Luka”. The construction of the section Pučišća – Luka bay represents the first phase in the reconstruction and construction of the road Supetar – Pučišća – Povlja – Sumartin. The value of the project is 8.1 million euros, with 85% of the costs funded by the EU Cohesion Fund, and judging by the statements of county and local representatives, the benefits of the project will far exceed the value of works:
“After long talks on selecting the best route, it turned out that the one we are constructing is the most vital, that it brings the most benefits to our population and opens the most opportunities for economic development. This section by itself creates preconditions for the realization of investments worth over one billion kuna (approx. € 130 mil.)”, the Mayor of Pučišća Marino Kaštelan averred.
The basis for this generous appraisal lies in the fact that the completion of the first phase brings the people of Brač a connection with the only island cargo port in the bay Veselje, provides access to over 250 hectares of architectural and building stone quarries, resolves the road connection issues for the planned tourist zone development in Luka cove, enables the accelerated development of agriculture and agritourism and helps improve regional fire protection.
Prefect Blaženko Boban agreed with the assessment: “The construction of this road will open additional tourist and economic perspectives, which is evident in the development of new quarries and the construction of a cargo port in Veselje Bay and in the construction of a tourism/hospitality zone in Luka cove.”
Completion of works on the section is expected within 18 months, and the project implementation period ends in January 2023.
